Frequently Asked Questions

We are often asked many questions associated with our treatment, and the questions listed below form a selection of the most frequently asked. If you have any questions which do not appear in this list, please contact us.

Depending on how well you look after the bonding and your intake of stained foods, drinks and your smoking status, they can last up to 5 years. We would always recommend regular maintenance with your dentist and hygienist.

You usually won’t require any injection before the treatment, as the tooth structure doesn’t normally require any drilling.

Composite Bonding is usually carried out in one session, although ongoing regular maintenance with a dentist and hygienist is highly recommended.

You should have a high standard of oral hygiene before considering bonding or veneers. Which should include brushing twice daily with the correct method and cleaning in between your teeth. Once bonding or veneers have been placed you should pay meticulous attention to these areas.

You should generally try to avoid biting into very hard objects, to prevent fractures occurring in the composite or porcelain.

If you grind your teeth at night, a mouth guard should be worn to prevent the bonding or veneers from fracturing.

Your diet should be healthy and the frequency of sugary or acidic foods should be kept to a minimum. Drinking dark beverages like tea, coffee and red wine as well as smoking can increase staining in veneers and composite bonding.

Regular cleaning with the hygienist can be helpful in maintaining the restorations.

Composite Bonding is carried out chairside and is great to correct small chips and aesthetic defects or minor spacing. They are placed directly by the dentist using high quality resin and are more easily adjustable to create your bespoke smile.

For larger imperfections, Porcelain Veneers can be the treatment of choice. The dentist usually removes a small amount of tooth structure, before taking a scan of your tooth. The laboratory will then fabricate a precision-made veneer to fit perfectly. This requires 2 visits and there will be temporary veneers placed in the interim.

Like with all dental treatment, bonding or veneers are not always appropriate for all patients. Your dentist will carry out a thorough examination and provide a bespoke treatment plan appropriate to you at your consultation appointment.

Dependant on how well they are looked after at home, they can last up to 10 years. We would always recommend regular maintenance with the hygienist.
